Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
Through Christian principles and teacher-directed/assisted activities children are encouraged to be independent thinkers and life-long learners. Our preschool is a ministry of Westoak Woods Baptist Church. Age appropriate spiritual lessons are woven into our daily activities. Our goal is to develop a healthy, positive concept within the children, as well as awareness they are loved by God.
Curriculum is unit-based, faith-based, and play-based. The curriculum provides a wide variety of activities to enhance the physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual growth of the young child. Classroom activities include: dramatic play, blocks, home living, music, books, science, games, art, nature studies, outdoor play, and fine and gross motor skills. These activities are presented in play-based centers that provide opportunities for children to learn through play and discovery. Play is critical to the healthy growth and development of preschool children. Through play children can develop social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments. Language development, number concepts, pre-reading and pre-math readiness, and exposure to good literature are integrated into all of the daily activities, and all of the preschool TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills) are covered in our curriculum. In addition, teachers utilize the Weekday Early Education Learning Curriculum as the foundation curriculum.
